Which government agency oversees an institution’s practice of personal data processing? Which agency is responsible for prosecuting those institutions that do not abide by the law?

It is the mandate of this Office to oversee and coordinate affairs related to the enforcement and implementation of Law no. 8/2005 (Personal Data Protection Act). If a person’s personal data is infringed on, he or she may lodge a complaint with this Office. If follow-up investigation reveals breach as an administrative offence, the Office will penalize the guilty party to an administrative fine; if the case involves crime, the suspect will be referred to the judiciary agencies for further legal actions.
