Question:
Is it legal for institutions to have their visitors’ personal data registered for security reasons?

Answer:
By having visitors’ personal data registered, institutions are in effect engaging themselves in personal data processing, which is subject to the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act. Therefore, institutions should prepare their personal data collection statements, and make them known to the visitors when collecting their data, so that they know the purposes and uses of their personal data. On the other hand, institutions should take measures to avoid the visitors seeing other people’s personal data, to prevent data leakage.
