Title: Installing a video monitoring system in the workplace

Content:

    To monitor employees and company property, Company A installed a video monitoring system in the workplace. Company A asked the GPDP what should be noted for the personal data protection of the monitoring system, and whether any information from the GPDP is available as reference.

Result:

    As Company A failed to provide detailed and specific information about the case, the GPDP could only provide the following opinions based on general personal data processing:
  According to Articles 4(1)(1) as well as 3(1) of the Personal Data Protection Act (Law 8/2005), the personal data processing found in the current enquiry is subject to the same Law.
  About installing a video monitoring system in the workplace, it is recommend make reference to the GPDP’s document, the Principles Concerning the Protection of Personal Data in the Workplace: Guidelines for Employee Monitoring.
  In addition, installing a video monitoring system should be in accordance with Article 21(1) of the Personal Data Protection Act, which regulates that one has to notify the GPDP within 8 days after the data processing started.
