Title: Keep receiving cold calls after objection

Reason: Complaint

Brief:

Citizen A said that he received the promotion calls of beauty services with telephone number X, but he forgot the name of that company and was not aware of the identity of the caller(s). Although A has exercised the right to object, he kept receiving promotion calls with that number.
Citizen A believed what that company did might have violated the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and thus lodged a complaint to the GPDP.

Analysis:

According to Bureau B, there is no information of the registered user of telephone number X.
Taking into consideration that there is no specific information of telephone number X, and A failed to indicate the identity of the caller(s), only pointed out the telephone number, there is no identification information of the caller(s), the GPDP was not able to verify the identity of the caller. Therefore, in the absence of objective evidence neither supported the complaints, nor the information of the cold calls, this office could not further investigate the case.
To sum up, the GPDP does not have conditions to do a follow-up.

Result:

The GPDP has informed Citizen A the result and also closed the current case.
